Holt HS Debate Tournament

2016 — Holt, MI/US

          Holt High School Debate Tournament

December 3, 2016

You and your team are invited to attend the Holt Debate Tournament on December 3, 2016. In a one-day tournament, we’ll be offering both Legislative and Public Forum Debate.

CONGRESSIONAL/LEGISLATIVE: Saturday only tournament for Novice and Varsity—we will use MIFA rules.  We will offer 2 preliminary sessions and a Super Session.  If numbers allow we will add a semifinal round before the Super Session.  Bills are due to marshd@dexterschools.org no later than MONDAY, November 21, at 5:00 PM so that I can get the packets back to registered schools by Wednesday, November 23.  Each school attending the tournament MUST submit at least one bill.  Schools may enter up to 3 bills, but I can’t promise we’ll use all three of them.  Students must be entered by full name, with an indication of Varsity or Novice, as well as whether or not the student has PO experience.  One judge is required for every 8 entries. All judges are required to judge one round beyond team’s elimination.  We will give speaker awards in each division.

PUBLIC FORUM:  Saturday only tournament for both Varsity and Novice Divisions using MIFA rules.  The topic will be the NSDA December topic.  We will offer 4 preliminary rounds with appropriate elimination rounds based on entries.  One judge is required for every 4 debaters—lay judges are preferred. All judges are required to judge one round beyond team’s elimination.  We will give elimination and speaker awards based on entries.

Judges: We will have some judges available for hire if necessary, but please ask early so that I can accommodate you.  One day hired judges will cost $75.

Food: Lunch for students, judges and coaches will be a sandwich, salad, cookie and drink for $7.00 payable at     registration to Holt HS Debate or in cash.

Fees:

Public Forum units will be $25 per 2 person team

Congressional/Legislative entries will be $25 for the first 3 speakers and then $5

per student beyond the first 3.

MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO Dexter Speech Activities.

Entry:                  Deadline for entry is Tuesday, November 29, at 3:30 pm.  All fees and judge commitments will be frozen at this time. The best way to enter is using the following link on the tabroom.com website.

Or email me at marshd@dexterschools.org, or call me at school (734) 424-4240 x 7113.  Or you can call me on my cell at (810) 623-0791—leave a message at either phone number if I don’t answer.  When you register, please tell me the division, the full name of each debater, and the judge names and any preclusions your judge may have.

It is imperative that you send the names of all of the competitors and judges by Thursday afternoon at 3:30 PM, December 1.  We will be inputting the tournament changes into the computer program on Thursday evening, so the sooner you know names, the better!

Forfeit: We hope to run on time, so make sure that your judges and students know that they will be bullied to their rounds by my vociferous tab staff. Also, we'll be using a version of the 15 minute forfeit rule in that if your students and/or your judges are not in their rounds by 15 minutes past the scheduled time for the round to begin, the students of the offending judge or team will be forfeited.  We will build a reasonable amount of prep time into the schedule.

Travel/Parking:  Please park off the Kahres Road Entrance or Main Entrance.  Holt High School is located at 5885 Holt Rd, Holt, MI 48842
